Measuring
多 is a important word in measuring. Generally equals to "how".
What's the height of the building?

The order is totally reverse with English.

Comparing
比 is a very important word in comparing.
An example:
A 比 B 大。
It means A is bigger than B.
"大" means big.
So you can apply to other conditions as you like in chinese.
